Steve Pope is an industry veteran in Publishing and A&R. He began his career as a professional musician playing drums and singing lead vocals for a southern rock band that had a long stint of live shows throughout the south in the 1980’s. Pope graduated from MTSU in 1988 with a degree in Recording Industry Management and immediately went to work at ASCAP as an intern but was soon hired to work for Pride Music Group, owned by country legend Charlie Pride. There Pope began the usual way as a “tape copy” assistant but soon excelled into a management position where he was instrumental in getting the song “Wild Horses” recorded by Garth Brooks. In 1992 Pope moved to Sunstone Music Group and continued plugging songs for the next year and a half before he was tapped to be Creative Director for Malaco Music Nashville, where he stayed for 6 years. Pope’s discography includes: “Wild Horses,” (Garth Brooks),“It Doesn't Get Any Countrier Than This” (Tim McGraw), “Never Again, Again,” (Lee Ann Womack), “I Know She Still Loves Me,” (George Strait), “Let’s Call It A Day Today,” (Tammy Wynette), “If The Jukebox Took Tear Drops,” (Billy Joe Royal) and many more. Pope’s experience and great track record at getting songs recorded by superstars landed him the VP of Publishing at Web Four / Caliber Music where he worked for the next year before starting his own company, TuneShop, an independent song plugging company representing some of the best writers in Nashville. He has experience in Publishing, A&R and Artist Development which make him an asset to any record company. |
